(大杯觴酒戦強者)
Print Date: c. 1920-1922?
Series: Chiyo ni Sakaeru Kabuki no Irodori

Note: This is a later printing of the previous
mitate print by Kunisada III.

Ichikawa Sadanji II
(市川左団次; 市川左團次) as
Baba Sarurobê (馬塲三郎兵衛)

(大杯觴酒戦強者)
Print Date: c. 1920-1922?
Series: Chiyo ni Sakaeru Kabuki no Irodori
(千代 栄劇彩)

Note: This is a mitate print.  It appears to be
a later printing of an as yet unlocated original
print, and is signed Kunimatsu instead of
Hôsai (Kunisada III).  However, it is also
possible that no earlier version exists.  Sadanji
II did portray Baba Sarurobê in a production of
Ôsakazuki Shusen no Tsuwamono at the
Teikoku Gekijô in December 1918.

at the Kabuki-za in May 1925, at the Teikoku Gekijô in November 1926, at the
Kabuki-za in September 1932, November 1933, and April 1936; at the Tôyoko

December 1940, and at the Kabuki-za in April 1942, and May-June 1943.
However, since Kunimatsu also lived in Osaka, it is also possible that this
print reflects a regional performance.

Note: While I have found no record of Sôjûrô VII performing in Tokyo in
Tanemaki Sanbasô (種蒔三番叟), he appeared as Sanbasô in various
                productions of Ayatsuri Sanbasô (操三番叟).
