1939, and the Kyôritsu Kôdô in May 1950.  While I cannot rule out

Note: It is unclear if this is a woodblock print, a watercolor

unpublished design.  Kôshirô VII died on January 27, 1949
at age 80.  He first played the role of Benkei in this play in
Tokyo at the Teikoku Gekijô in April 1914.  Although
Kôshirô VII's final Tokyo appearance in this role was in
June 1946, it is possible that Gakô based this print on one

Note: Kôshirô VII first played the role of Benkei in this play
in Tokyo at the Teikoku Gekijô in April 1914.  Although
Kôshirô VII's final Tokyo appearance in this role was in June
1946, it is possible that Gakô based this print on one of
Kôshirô VII's prior performances.
