performance in that production. This print closely resembles
one made by Tanaka Shikô (田中紫光) around the same time.
One wonders if they might be the same artist or if Shikô was a
pseudonym adopted by a publisher who knocked off
Hanayama's design.

Note: Although Matsusuke IV performed this role multiple
times during his career, he only performend the role in Tokyo
twice during the 1920s, the period when Shikô was actively
making prints. It is possible that this print reflects
Matsusuke
IV's subsequent performance at the Teikoku Geikijô in June
1927. This print closely resembles one made by Miyake
Hanayama (三宅花山) around the same time. One wonders if
they might be the same artist or if Shikô was a pseudonym
adopted by a publisher who knocked off Hanayama's design.
