Note: Shôjirô performed this role at the Shinbashi Enbujô in
November 1924, at the Hōgaku-za in June 1926, and at the
Ichimura-za in May 1927. It is possible that this
print reflects
one of those performances.
Sawada Shôjirô (沢田正二郎) as
Hazama Shinroku (間新六)
Play: Gishi Tsuto Kaibutu Hazama Shinroku
(義士傳怪物間新六)

Note: Shôjirô also portrayed Hazama Shinroku in a
production of Aida Shinroku (間新六) at the Shinbashi
Enbujô in March 1924 and in Gishi Hazama Shinroku
(義士間新六) at the Teikoku Gekijô in March 1927. It
is possible that this print reflects one of those
performances.

Note: Kôshirô VII also performed the role at the Teikoku
Gekijô in January 1925 and April 1927. I cannot rule out
the possibility that this print reflects one of those
performances. Sadanji II, however, did not appear in
those productions, so if Hanayama's prints of Kôshirô VII
and Sadanji II are from the same production of Kanjinchô,
it would have been the March 1925 production at the
Kabuki-za.
Ichikawa Sadanji II (市川左団次; 市川左團次) as
Togashi Saemon (富樫左衛門)
Play: Kanjinchô (勧進帳)

Personal Collection
Note: Sadanji II also performed the role at the Kabuki-za in
February 1926 and February 1928, and at the Teikoku Gekijô
in June 1929. I cannot rule out the possibility that this
print
reflects one of those performances. Kôshirô VII,
however,
did not appear in those productions, so if Hanayama's prints
of Kôshirô VII and Sadanji II are from the same production
of Kanjinchô, it would have been the March 1925 production
at the Kabuki-za.
